opening [the] case files

September 30th, 2008

i just googled around a bit tonight to track down some of [the] caseworker’s reviews, and i was delighted to see that writers are fond of the dear ol’ workies.

perfect sound forever felt this way: “mesmerizing…crafted to daze any listener…smart and appealing…the band stands in complete control. Their songs are musical anomalies, soundtracks to long stretches of open land.”

an amazon reviewer noted that the album was “flawless…completely soothing yet dark at the same time”

a little fanzine called rolling stone says “[the] Caseworker extract dreariness from inside whispery, ambient pop…songs that are as hooky as they are haunting…completely enraptured and awesomely dazed”

the tallest band in the world

September 28th, 2008

timonium practicing at pehrspace in los angeles in september of 2008

according to the pehr book of world records, timonium is officially the tallest band in the world. at practice today, members were measured:

james: 6′0
aaron: 6′4
tim: 6′7
adam g: 6′2
adam h: 6′3

if you have a problem with that or think you can school us with a taller band, feel free to leave a comment, shorty.

ps: timonium practiced 4 new songs for the first time with all 5 members in like a year. they are prepping for some heavy shredding (tracking guitars for their next album) on wednesday with jim putnam at his studio.

demogain

September 9th, 2008

didn’t we just post about demos? yes we did and we’re doing it again. timonium has been demoing a bit, and these are songs that will be released 3 albums away. they already are stalled in an atwater village studio for tracking songs for their concordia album (bass and drums are done, guitars and vocals not so much, though they have been composing). they are also stalled in burbank studio mixing some songs from 1996 called in ives hall.

but in spare moments, they have been laying down raw materials for that mystical 3rd album which should come out in the 2010s. here is a solo version, where one member plays out all the parts and then sends it to the other members. the final version should be severely different, with different parts and instruments. still you can hear the embryo below. listen out for the chermachine on some vocals.

timonium: symphony double honeycomb (demo)

this is one of two new songs involving honeycombs, and it is sort of based on a scene from the movie spirit of the beehive. it is not as catchy as the cereal jingle, and it is named after a brand of commercial miniblinds.

sick psych

September 5th, 2008

those seventies bandits, eucalyptus, have been demoing and roughmixing recently and sporadically in portland. we think an album and some sort of concert may occur in the near future. 4 tracks are now available for preview at the eucalyptus myspace. they are full of errors, studiotalk, and some tape splicing and dub generation from marc fischer.

so if we didn’t warn you enough, listening to these songs would just be a fun way of hearing a band in the middle of recording stuff. it wouldn’t, like, be great new addition to download into your library for keeps. so like for fans only. umm, get it?

elephant pixel video!

August 29th, 2008

as i was getting ready to send elephant pixel cds to amazon, i found one of their videos on youtube. i love it. this is not as gloomy as the usual pehr videos…

the aspect ratio is muffed up but if i figure how to fix it or the proper ratio comes online i’ll update this post!

i hear mr. pixel has moved from argentina to berlin. i will email him one of these days and get the scoop for you. if he has, he should meet up with dan from d_minum and they should form a superduo.
