if you know me, you know i recently broke my tooth, and you know that i love tim & eric. you may also know that i saw eric twice in real life: once at elf restaurant, sitting near my friend adam garcia (adam garcia was with a skank), and again outside of the radiohead concert at hollywood bowl. he looked unhappy or irritated both times.
i probably won’t see him tonight, but i will see someone else from their show: david liebe hart. i’m volunteering to run the door or the sound at pehrspace, so come on down and say hi if you want.

the first time i broke my tooth, i was shocked. i didn’t recognize the man in the mirror. i was disturbed. something that i thought would never change, in fact, changed. it was a dark time for me. then i had my tooth fixed at the dentist. it cost me $200, but it was worth it. two drummers are pulling double duty this friday at pehrspace. one happens to be adam garcia, who will be drumming with imaad wasif and timonium. the other drummer happens to be robert bauwens, who will be playing in the soft opening and sasqrotch (best band name ever?). guess who else is in these two bauwens-based bands? nick, who used to work at pehr! fullcircle time.
drop by.

tucker of mount analog has a great new interview at harp magazine. seems he’s been busy recording decemberists and mudhoney, amongst a billion other projects. he is as busy as a beaver. his brother mac is also in a few bands, one of which includes joe from pehr’s own eucalyptus. and they didn’t meet each other through pehr at all; it is just a small, incestuous and weirdly coincidental world.
as a matter of fact, if you are reading this today, on sunday, and you live in portland, you can go see mac and joe’s band at the alberta street pub. they are an excellent outfit called axton kincaid. there’s a new term for their kind of music called indiegrass, which i pray does not take off (folktronica, anyone?). i prefer altcountry: even though that’s a very general and nondescriptive term, it doesn’t make me feel sick like indiegrass. indiegrass implies that the people in the band are kind of trendy or hip. maybe i am being old fashioned?

former pehr label manager sara relocated to portland a year or two ago, and since then, she and her husband kelley have been busy. they have recently opened their own music studio called mind wave. it’s a hybrid digital/analog studio that overlooks a 725-acre wetlands preserve brimming with geese, frogs, cats, deer, nutria, and all kinds of other birds and animals. if you are going to be in portland and going to record…

so, after a scary 3 days, pehr blog is back. for our regulars, i want to apologize for worrying you. i turned on ssl so that we can get a nice shopping cart going in-house, and right when that happened, all hell broke loose. our webhost made things worse for 2 days, before i called them again and they corrected their error. while they were giving “technical support” they also tried to upsell me into paying them more money for things i didn’t need that would really “save me money in the long run.”
isn’t it awesome when you call for tech support, and they let you know they messed something up for 2 days, and then they try to get you to give them more money? and then ask if you can answer a brief survey about their service? awesome.

it’s not that i feel so conceited that i think the blogworld needs to know about my musical upbringing. but i do think it’s interesting how someone’s youth shapes them, and leads them into the music world. so, without further ado, i will tell parts i and ii of my story. please comment and tell me your musical childhood if you are not asleep by the time you finish mine…
